Is it really 20 years?
20 years ago ….we saw Windows 95 “Started Up” giving us the Windows start button that’s still here today.
John Major was Prime minster telling his party “to put up or shut up” We saw the Kobe earthquake tragedy and its
unlikely fallout as it exposed Nick Leesons dodgy trading positions leading to the collapse of Barings Bank,
“too big to fail” they said…we heard that again 13 years later. Jurassic Park was in the cinema, OJ Simpson went
on trial and was acquitted and we saw the birth of the DVD (and eBay …one will last longer than the other I think).
The more things change the more things stay the same.
But more importantly, for the first time, the Internet became publicly available and that’s where our story began.
Cybase saw the potential for this world changing technology straight away and we were soon selling dial up connections
over 28.8 and 56 Kbs dial up ( yep if you’re early twenties that’s what super fast Broadband was way back then ) for
people all over the country. As a fledgling company we offered new services such as email and web site design / hosting.
Not much has changed really, the services are still there just slightly different. Of course nowadays most of our services
revolve around the cloud because now we live in an always on-line environment and offer hosted mail, web hosting
and even applications with Office 365. Who’d have thought it 20 years ago when were listening to the squawks from our modems every
time we dialled up and your dad couldn’t use the phone that we would live in a society where if the Internet wasn’t available
it would become as crucial to businesses as a power cut or water outage.
Cybase was acquired by Mark Stevens the Managing Director of Rapid Technologies in 2011 to complement Rapid’s existing portfolio of communications and network
infrastructure product and service offerings.
As we celebrate our twentieth year with our new website launch we would like to thank all of our loyal customers for their
support and welcome any new customers who may be looking for a trusted and experienced local technology service and support partner.
